The story revolves around Kaiman, who does not remember who he was before he was transfigured by a Magic user. This transformation left him with a reptile's head, and a desire to find out the truth about who he really is. Accompanied by Nikaido, his female companion, he tracks down Magic Users in "The Hole" and unceremoniously chomps down on their head, hoping to find out who it was that put him in this state. One by one, they witness this "second man" inside the head of Kaiman, and after pulling them back out of his mouth he asks them all a question... "What did the guy inside my head say?"

The story could basically be split into two halves. The main story is about Tamai Shiina, who is an energetic middle-school teenage girl. She visits her grandparent's over the summer where she runs into a very strange creature. Shiina has had lots of strange dreams as of late and also when she was younger, and this strange creature is somewhat related to her visions. She names the small cuddly star-shaped creature, Hoshimaru. Little did she know that this cuddly creature is really part of herself. After her vacation, Shiina goes back to her home, living with her father. She runs into other children with similar creatures the following days. However, these children have developed their creatures, and they have complete control over them. They mostly use these creatures for their own destructive pleasure and not for good. There is a group of teenagers that all have these strange creatures, and they plan to basically conquer the world, creating a utopia of whatever they desire. Will they succeed? Shizuka is a very beautiful oujo, respected daughter of the Nishizono household. Her father's company is having a slightly rough time financially and as is usual in the higher circles, her dad is trying to solve everything by having Shizuka marrying a prominent talent or a heir of a big family in order to expand & solidify the business.... Shizuka is very respectful and loves her father a lot... but she absolutely hates having her freedom restricted, however her own father pushiness has created the habit of forcing her to run away from the house every time an omai looks too imminent. To complete the picture, we have Tooru; a servant to the Nishizono household that is always around Shizuka and is usually at the wrong end of her outbursts, as such his job mainly consists of "making Shizuka's wishes come true", ergo securing places for Shizuka to run away in whenever she feels the need to and seeing to her every need. Thus, Shizuka once again runs away from home. She understands that this time will be different from the other non serious attempts, now "she doesn't want to be found". However little does she realize how different this time will be from all others. On one side we have Koichi, who will never let such a big chance for quick fortune slip past; on the other side we have Tooru standing always next to her, taking care of her and displaying loyalty to her is suddenly starting to bring forward conflicting feelings on our dear oujo.
